Hey,

My wife is having trouble deleteing a recurring iCal event. This is under Leopard. The calendar was published on .mac. I took that away. Tried to delete but that didn't work. I can't delete one instance or the entire series of events. :( Any ideas? Thanks!

Anyone got any ideas to solve this? Or has anyone had a similar problem?

Cannot delete recurring event in iCal

I just created a new iCal calendar (Leopard) by importing from my Palm calendar via Missing Sync. I had the same problem - could not delete a recurring event (by selecting the event and hitting the delete key). I created a new event (single day) and I could delete that. I created a new recurring (2 day) event and could delete that. At that point, I *could* delete the old recurring event.
Hope this helps others.

Still can't delete

I also have a repeating event that I can't delete. The suggestion to create a new event and then delete didn't work for me. Can you be more specific?

I don't know that what I did actually fixed anything, it just started working after I did those two things: creating a single-day event, and delete with the delete key, and create a repeating 2-day event, and delete that with the delete key. Didn't make any sense, but somehow I can now delete every recurring event that's I've tried to delete. Sorry.

Export and import

I exported the calendar with the event I couldn't delete then imported it into a new calendar. Then I was able to delete.

Possible solution

I think I've found a solution for deleting an 'un-deletable' recurring entry from iCal.

First, type the title of the offending entry into the search box in iCal. This will display all the individual entries at the bottom of the screen. Check they all refer to the offending entry and then select them all. Finally press delete for all of the entries.

I don't know exactly why the problem occurred, but it could be because the start year for the first entry is a long way back (the entry I had problems with went back to 1916).

I've experienced this bug a few times, usually after upgrading operating systems. The only solution is to delete the calendar and start all over. (At least that's the only solution I've found, even after talking with MobileMe and Apple technical support.)

This worked for me too. Deleting a single entry after search didn't work, but after selecting all of them it did.

Delete the first repeating event

I had a similar problem. When deleting a repeating event (and selecting "delete all future events") the event is deleted, but after a few seconds the event(s) will reappear in iCal.

What worked for me is to locate the "head" of the event (i.e. the first instance) and to delete that. Searching for the name of the event is one way to locate that first instance of the event.

When you "delete all future events" it does that, but then it detects the earlier event is repeating, so it recreates the repetitions of it. Normally, it updates the original repeat entry to indicate that you have deleted some of them. But in this case that does not happen properly, so the event does not stay deleted.

Solution to not being able to delete events/ calendars

I just discovered this potential solution to issue of deleted ical events that keep coming back:

I just found a solution: Go into iSync, (use macintosh HD, applications), then go to Preferences. Turn off iSync (uncheck enable syncing on this computer). Then Reset Sync History (be sure to push Reset Sync History on second screen too). Then logoff/logon or reboot. Then you can delete calendar events or calendars or whatever you need. If you need to sync again, just go into iSync and re-enable syncing. The problem does not seem to come back. I tried all the other solutions posted and none worked except for this one.

thanks!

thanks - i've managed to delete them at last! i had to select and delete them a few times but they went eventually. you don't know how long this has been bugging me :D

can't type

very very new to mac...a relative gave me an imac G4 10.4.11 so am just learning. I tried using the iCal application but it won't let me type in information. Can someone please tell me what I'm doing wrong?
Thanks.

After trying all previous suggestions without any success - trying to delete a repeating event - this worked for me. I had to go back three months to the original request, but it worked.
Thank you.
Kate :)

Getting rid of repeating events that you accepted the invite for.

I found an easy way:

1. Create New Calendar (I called mine "bad word", because of frustrations).

2. ctrl-click on repeating event and select the "bad word" calendar. It should now be assigned the "bad word" calendar colour.

3. Delete the "bad word" calendar.
