I can download previously installed apps, but I cannot install new apps. Whenever I enter my password it displays an error pop up " Cannot connect to iTunes Store."

Any ideas?

I have tried a reboot, reset password and signing into my apple id on the website and that works.

Did you try restoring your phone, or download something with your apple id on another device ?

This was resolved thanks to TriJetHero.

I had to return my my firmware identification back to 6.0.1. It was set to 6.1.

TriJet is awesome.
 
I had the same problem yesterday afternoon. I bit of Googling confirmed that many were in the same boat because, apparently, the iTunes Store was down.

All seems to be OK now.

My iPhone fiends had no issues with the App Store yesterday. My issue was firmware identification. Perhaps there was a regional App Store outage and it was in your area?
