cannot download?

hello i have a minimac 80gb 10.5.6 with leopard with firefox/safari and when i try to download anything i get a spinning disk and the page will not load all it says is transferring,any ideas please?

Can we have your Network settings please, just the network status for starters.

i think it might have been the apple software update from 10.5.5 to 10.5.6 that caused the downloads to stop,i have just started to erase and reinstall the o/s
