Cannot enter DFU mode

Yesterday I updated my iphone 3gs to iOS 6.1.3. Prior to updating I could enter DFU mode the usual way. But now when I try to do it all it does is bring up voice control. I really don't know what do to.

Are you able to do a hard reset? (Hold down home button and sleep/wake button until the phone switches off)

If not, then maybe your home button or sleep/wake button is not working properly.
