Cannot erase drive

Hi.

I am trying to format an Amacom EZ 120Gb firewire external drive is Disk Utility. I only get the options of Unix FIle System or Mac Extended. The Mac extended does not work & the disk does not show up on the desktop. In the partition section it says the total capacity is 0bytes.

Any ideas how to wipe this baby?

Did it come pre-installed with any software, for backups or anything of the sort, that may be causing the problem?

Its actually a drive that a collegue of mine has just got & he bought it from a director in the company we work for. It was connected to a mac laptop (sorry I don't know the spec, would imagine G5) & worked fine.

I am thinking it has permission problems, non afp perhaps?
