This is odd, but there seems to be a few subjects on the web, but so far no resolution.

I have lost iMovie from my 2010 iMac. I have OS X 10.8.2 installed, but iMovie has gone. I didn't use it before, but my daughter has now said she would like to try it.

I looked for it, couldn't find it so opened the app store, and tried to install it. Then it tells me it's already installed, and I cannot get any further.
I have looked in the apps folder, run spotlight, and still no joy.

One site said to just reinstall from your iLife disc, but I dont have one, the computer came preinstalled.

Can anyone tell me what I need to do to get it back?

You can try the following:
To find system files via Finder, that can't be found via Spotlight:

If that does not help, and you haven't got any grey Restore DVDs for your iMac (they came with Macs until Mac OS X 10.7 Lion was released), you could contact Apple and ask them to send you those grey Restore DVDs since they didn't come with your Mac, and thus it should cost your nothing.

That found it!

Seems that it was in another folder with some other apps that I thought I no longer had. When I opened it, it asked if I was sure I wanted to open a file downloaded from the internet. Works perfectly though, and I now have garage band back, plus iWeb and iDVD!

Many thanks for the tips. Just goes to show, that you can learn something new every day!

Thanks again!:)

HELP can't find iMovie on my mac

i was looking for iMovie but i can't find it anywhere! i thought i would go to the app store and just reinstall it or open it from there but it says i have to buy it. What i sent understand is why i would have to buy it if it comes free with the mac. Any suggestions?:(

If you have just upgraded your OS from one that had iMovie11(v9), look in your Applications Folder for a folder called iMovie 9.0.9

If you want the latest version of iMovie, that's the one you have to buy from the App Store.
