Cannot Format 2TB External HDD as HFS+?

Hi, I've just bought a Verbatim 2TB external desktop hard drive that came pre-formatted as NTFS. For some reason, I cannot format it as HFS+ using Disk Utility or any other disk management software for Mac. I can format it as exFAT via DU and exFAT and NTFS in Windows 7. Any idea why it won't work with HFS+?

Pretty sure it is but no options available to change it.

You have to erase the disk in the proper tab to change the partition mapping.

Found the option under the Partition tab and changed it to Apple Partition Map. Still no worky.

Select 1 Partition from the drop down list. Then click on Options below the big box with Untitled 1 in the middle, should get this Window:

And select GUID partition table. Hope this works. Then name your partition whatever you like and select your Format settings.

Neither GUID or APM seem to work. I can only format at NTFS or exFAT, no HFS+

Don't select the volume. Select the whole drive.
