So I recently got the 15" 2.66Ghz UMBP. After opening and setting up, have done the software update to bring the system up to date. Then set about trying to install my printer (Its a Lexmark X4690 Wireless).
Before going further, I should say that I have two Vaio's at home and I can get the printer to do everything it should from those two windows machines.
For OSX, the Lexmark support site asks me to first try the drivers supplied with OSX instead of its own drivers. I tried doing that but this specific printer was not listed in the list of supplied drivers in OSX. So I used the driver CD that Lexmark supplied to install the software in OSX (It installs it as the Lexmark 3600-4600 series). After that, tried connecting to the printer via USB and everything went well. Then ran the wireless setup wizard (while connected to the printer via USB, as instructed) and that too went well. After all was done I removed the USB cable and tried printing a test page wirelessly, but couldn't.
From that point on, I have tried all the tricks listed in the support forums on Apple and Lexmark's sites. Nothing I do seems to get the printer to work in wireless mode on the MBP. It works perfectly if I connect via USB, I can even ping to the printer wirelessly, but the moment I try printing anything, the printer status changes from "ready, idle" to "offline", and the printer icon starts bouncing on the dock (with a red exclamation mark). Mind you, all this while, I can print wirelessly from the Vaio's, so obviously nothing wrong with the printer or the windows drivers.
All this indicates that something is either wrong with the OSX version of the wireless drivers for this printer or I must be doing something wrong.
If any of you have had a similar problem, any help on how to resolve this will be greatly appreciated.
