Cannot get past logo on Iphone 5s Boot up

Sons Iphone5 has been shutting off at random . Since I have replaced batteries before on Iphones I started there. No complications except the phone was so dead that even with power attached I not able to make the phone go through the shut down process. So dead anyway whats to lose?

Now the phone will display the logo for about 7-8 seconds with power button only or with both power and home button.

Any hope for it... (thinking of putting this screen (nice) on a decent used working phone that needs a screen.

But I would sure like to boot it up. Not worried about losing data..

Suggestions?

Itunes displays the serial number, then after failing upgrade it says "cannot be restored device not found" Not sure how it can read phones serial number then "can't find it"??
