WTF? I'm trying to help my mom with her Touch. It's brand new and we can't drag any songs onto it from iTunes. All I get is a circle with a line through it. Christ! This is the most basic function there is! She's using Vista (of course) which I'm sure is part of the problem.

Oh and yes- we have all the current software versions installed.

Okay, what format is the song(s) in question? And is the iPod set to manual sync or manually manage music? By default, it's automatic sync which means you can't just drag songs.

Where do I change that? I can't believe this.

When you have the iPod connected to the computer, click on the iPod in iTunes. Then you should see an option for "Manually manage music and videos", check that and then try to see if you can drag songs onto the iPod.

actually I would say it isn't a pain. They are set up by default to automatically sync with iTunes for calendar, music, movies, podcasts, address book, etc. You simply have to select one box to make it different. Seems pretty simple to me. I would imagine most people use the automatically syncing function which is why they default to that method.
