Hello. Apologies if I don't have the right forum or area for this. As you can probably tell, I made an account to try and seek help with an issue we are having in my house. We have a Macbook Pro 2011 that is running 10.6.8, and tonight when the computer was turned on, it no longer recognized the password for any account. We know for a fact that the password is correct, but the system is saying it's incorrect. Being that we live a good deal away from any apple specialists, I was hoping that someone may have an idea of what is going on to save us a 4 hour car ride.

Also, I'm not sure if this could have anything to do with it, but this particular notebook's battery has been kaput for quite some time. It doesn't charge, and the computer has to be plugged in to a power source at all times.

I can't think of anything that would cause the system to lose the admin password even if the battery did die.

You can reset the password by following this guide though.
