Cannot move file error deleting mail?

Hi Guys,
Was helping the "mother in law" with uploading images and syncing the iPad with her laptop

I noticed she had 94 emails in the trash
When I tried to delete one of them, I got, "cannot move file" and the email would not delete? Tried some others, same message and result?

Any suggestions on the course of action I should take?
