I transferred a Powerpoint 2008 presentation using a USB memory stick from my new iMac (latest OSX) to an older iMac (OSX 10.4.11) but could not open the file either by double-click or from the Powerpoint 2004 application on that computer. The file icon as transferred is a Zip file and when I double-click iI get a window saying 'Archiving file ...' but it doesn't open. Neither do I get an unzipped icon to open. I confirmed that BOMArchivehelper is enabled and exists on the computer. What am I missing?

What file format did you save your PowerPoint presentation on your new computer as?

If you saved it as a .pptx, you need to do one of two things:
1. On your new computer, save it as a .ppt instead of .pptx.
2. On your old computer, install the file format converter. It's a free download. After you have installed this on Office 2004, you'll be able to open the file without a problem.

Cannot open powerpoint zip file

Nadyne, thanks for your input. I had saved the original Microsoft 2008 file on the first computer in .pptx format. So I took your advice and saved it in .ppt format and it opens without a problem on the other computer with Microsoft 2004. I didn't need to download the file converter.

Thanks again - easy when you know how!

You might want to download the free converter anyway -- it'll save you hassles in the future if you get a file from someone who you don't want to ask to convert it to the older file type. :)

Nadyne.
