Cannot run Terminal !!

Hi, I have a MacBook Pro Intel Core 2 Duo with OS X 10.6.6

I've been trying to run the terminal, but as soon as it opens it starts thinking and i get the beach ball, i don't get any error but then the computer starts working really slow and the beach ball keeps running around.

I can open all the other programs without any problem, but when i try to run any program that involves the terminal or X11.

A few things to try:

1. Restart
2. Create a new user account and see if the same thing happens.
3. Repair permissions.
