Cannot send a pasted image in mail

When I copy an image to the clipboard and paste it into a blank mail it looks fine, but all the sender receives is a box with a blue question mark in it.

If I insert an image it works fine. I just cannot paste from the clipboard.

Is this a bug or am I missing a setting somewhere?

Figured it out

Aha - I was only copy/pasting a web link - despite the clicking on the copy image command in the menu.
