I'm trying to hook my Macbook up to my TV with VGA, and the highest resolution available is 1360*768. My TV is a 1080p TV, so does anyone know why system preferences won't let me select anything higher than 720p?

FYI the TV is a Sony, model KDL32W-4000.

Thanks!

What kind of macbook? Recent?

The old macbooks, before they were updated to nvidia graphics couldn't display that resolution.

Wrong, the max for GMA 950 and GMA X3100 macbooks for an external display is 1920x1200. The problem is that OS X isn't recongizing the proper resolution to show.
