Cannot Unpair Apple Watch

Trying to unpair my Apple Watch from my iPhone X to my iPhone 12 Pro

However when I go into the watch app, click unpair and enter my password for Apple ID I get th following message

”Cannot unpair Apple Watch”
Activation lock could not be turned off on your Apple Watch because of a server error”

Anyone had any experience with this or have any suggestion on a fix/workaround?

Could just be a temporary issue from apple's servers. Maybe give it some time. You could try turning off wifi on the phone and do it over cellular to see if that works. Also, of course, try reboot the watch and phone.

Same thing is happening to me. I can no longer use the "use your Apple Watch to unlock apps and your Mac either" looks like I'm stuck. And I can't unpair ir from my iPhone either. Both are running latest OS
