Cannot use home sharing from iOS devices but can use from other Macs

Home sharing does not appear in my iPad nor iPhone's Music app. However, signing into my account on a MacBook Air causes all devices to see my MacBook Pro's library and subsequently connect to it. Once connected, the MacBook Air can be shut down. However, when I quit and reopen iTunes on the MacBook Pro, home sharing can no longer be seen on my iOS devices. Any ideas as to this odd behaviour?
