Canon DC20 DVD problem

I just recently purchased an Imac, and have owned a Canon DC20 DVD camcorder for some time. Via the camcorder, I can watch finalized mini DVDs on the Mac, but can't download/import the images onto the hard drive. Nor can I import any of the images to imovie. What am I missing?
