I'm at the fork in the road in purchasing a new Camcorder for my work. I purchased an Canon HV30 about 6 months ago, and now we are looking to purchase another camera.

I'm just curious what you all thought between getting the Canon GL-2 or sticking with purchasing another HV30.

I like the control I could get out of the GL-2, but I know that I could also get some hot shoe accesorries to beef up the HV30 within a cheaper budget.

I would be shooting in various conditions, but mostly for documentary purposes.

Anyone have any ideas? Pro's or Cons?

Thanks!

Made up my mind

I'll be going with the same camera.

After looking at reviews from several places I would say that the GL-2 has some issues with it.

Thanks!

Claytoniss,
Thanks for the thread because I'm wondering the same thing. Stu Maschwitz had some footage of the GL1 and concluded that it has less rolling shutter artifacts the HV30, but it still has its share. I couldn't find the link.

Fyi

So I got another HV30.

But since the HV40 is coming out soon, I was able to get a good deal.

So extra money was spent on a canon shotgun mic, nice bag, and a canon light.

I think keeping all the footage as consistent as possible will be better off in the long run.

I do wish I had the budget for a 5k camera though, but the amount of editing I do at my job is very minimal.

Thanks

I myself had been looking for an HV30, and had gotten close to pulling the trigger when it was in my Amazon Goldbox for $569. But I just kept holding off because it had been cheaper at times (seems those days aren't coming back for some reason though). However, the HV20, which from what I've read is not very different than the HV30, is on sale at canon's e-store for $399 refurbished and I just picked that up.

My previous consumer HD camera was a Sony HC1 which served me well from April 2006 til Fall 2008 when we had a fire in the house which affected my HC1. Also had a Canon XH A1 get affected too
