Canon ip8700 vs 10.6.8

Hi all

Has anyone been able to connect this printer to their iMac running 10.6.8?

I've tried both cable and wireless and have had no luck with either. At one point the printer was showing on wireless but nothing seemed to happen.
I looked on the canon website but although the printer is just out the box, the driver is no longer available from them- should I even need to download the driver? I thought it would be on the installation disk?

Also, does anyone know what the large peice of plastic is for? It holds a disk and the instruction shows that it goes on the back of the printer???

Any advice will be most appreciated.

I was able to download the driver from the Canadian canon web site. I tried searching for it on the US web site (since that is where I live), but it came up with nothing.

There's a driver on the UK site: http://www.canon.co.uk/support/cons...rs&language=&os=MAC OS X V10.6 (Snow Leopard)

I assume the plastic tray allows you to print on printable discs.
