When trying to add the MP640 scanner via System Prefs / New Printer I cannot see the Bonjour scanner anymore. The "canonijnetwork" printer shows up as normal. Until recently I´ve used the standard Canon software package for both printing and scanning but Image Capture does the job a whole lot better so I wanted to get rid of all the Canon stuff.

I know the Bonjour service on the MP640 is enabled and setup correct. Tried both with its default settings and custom name for the service. However, it will not show up on any of my Macs, both with Canon drivers installed and no drivers present. I´ve also tried running a Bonjour scan via iStumbler which finds all the other Bonjour services on my network, but not the MP640.

I find it hard to believe that the Bonjour service is the only thing not working on the printer/scanner...

Anyone else with similar problems? Solutions? :/

Have you downloaded the latest drivers from canon? I know that I couldn't use the scanner on my MP560 until I updated the drivers.

Yep I have the latest drivers. However I somehow managed to solve the problem after some Googling about issues with router custom firmware DD-WRT and Bonjour.

I wired the Mac and the MP640 to a separated switch and voila the Bonjour Scanner service popped up as normal. Then I tried to connect the Mac and the MP640 directly to the switch on the DD-WRT router itself, found no scanner services. Rebooting the router did not make any difference. Tried the separated switch again and confirmed that everything was working once more, and then hooked that switch up to the router switch. Still working. A bit strange since the latest setup was the same as the one creating problems at first, both wired and wireless.

Another thing is that other Bonjour services was working all the time. Air Video server, NAS services etc.

I guess the solution was some mix of rebooting network devices and putting them back on in a specific order for Bonjour broadcast to work again... (?).
