Canon Pixma MP600 printer

I'm using an iMac with OS X 10.6.7 and all of a sudden, when I tried to print a Word document, my Canon Pixma MP600 screen started displaying a message in Japanese with an orange border on top; the only recognizable element in it is the "OK" button. I pressed it but nothing happens. All other printer buttons are inactive so it is impossible to change the display language. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
