Ok, so I have the Rebel XTi and I have the cruddy stock 18X55MM lens, but I need a better one. Looking for a suggestion to someone who owns a lens for this camera.

I would like to be able to:

Zoom out better
Macro Photos

I looked at the Canon 55X250 but I am not sure it is that good of a lens, and I know there are other companies out there that make good lenses. I called B&H but I need someone to just give me their advice based on owning a lens.

18-135

I use a canon 18-135 EF-S IS lens as my walk-around on my T2i.

It is a compromise between a longer zoom for birding and a shorter focal length (macro) for flower shots when I am hiking. I wanted to reduce or eliminate the need to swap lenses while hiking to both reduce the amount of dust exposure and to limit the amount of stuff I had to lug around.

There is noticeable vignetting at longer zoom, but that is easily corrected in Aperture. If you poke through the reviews on Amazon, you can get a feel for what people think of it.
