Canon S45 no longer recognized by iPhoto

For the past year I have used my Canon S45 flawlessly with my iBook (10.3.8), and just today I tried to import some pics with iPhoto(5) and my camera doesn's show up! It doesn't show up in ImageCapture either. I have not made any changes to iPhoto or IC, so I have no idea what the problem could be. Anybody know what I can do without erasing my pictures? Thanks.

Go get yourself a cheap CF Card reader that'll plug into your USB port. That's the quick way.

Of course, try repairing permissions, etc...

My pleasure - I've got the same camera, I've used a CF card reader (PC Card adapter) for my PB from day one.
