hey guys i was wondering wether i should get a new canon t2i vs a used canon xl1s. thanks guys!!!

That depends on your needs.
One camera is SD, the other is HD.
One camera is a photo camera, one is a video camera (camcorder).

And so forth and so forth.

Maybe you can provide more information for us to go on?

if i get the t2i, i will primary use it to shoot video. having hd would be nice, but my main distribution format will be dvd. i shoot short films, live sports, and occasionally some weddings.

Then the XL2, although being SD, might be the better deal as it is more comfortable to use, especially with the shoulder pad.

The Ti2 has to be upgraded a lot to use for such events like you want to shoot, especially sports and weddings, where you have to walk around a lot.

Are you able to rent both devices for a week or whatever time to see what camera fits your needs?

no. but i have used a t2i, and it overheated after 8 mins of use. i am also on a low budget (thanks obama:mad:) and cant afford the xl2

Your option is pretty clear, isn't it? If you can't use the T2i for more than 8 minutes and the XL2 is too expensive for you.

Maybe rather than wasting time looking for validation on internet forums and blaming the president for your financial woes, you could spend your time earning some money to buy what you want.
