Alright I am really interested to know in lamens terms what the difference is between these two that makes the Canon more expensive. I don't understand how the Sony, which is HD, is less expensive. I mean its freaking High Def.!! So if any one would like to enlighten me. And if I were to get one of these which one would you recomend?

Prices are marketing strategies. About the SONY there is a better version equivalent to the PD-150 but high Def that is priced at about the same as the XL2. It has the professional sound inputs and a better mic as the XL2 has.

And to why the SONY is HD is because they had the technology first...

The Canon has interchangeable lenses (the XL series and ,with an adapter, the entire Canon lens catalog). Also, the Sony captures HD into an MPEG stream which is a hassle to edit (at least on the Mac) without using a workaround like Lumiere.

Besides, Canon is better quality-wise (at least in my experience).
