I bought a new (Windows) notebook as a replacement for my ten-year-old MBP which I can't access right now because the MagSafe charging cable is broken. I have several about a month old iPhone backups there and I have saved the encryption password in my password manager so it's 100% correct there.

Today I made a new backup on the new notebook because my iPhone 6s charging socket had become almost unusable (when it rains it pours...) and I did a factory reset before giving it to a repair shop. Trying to restore it now, it's asking me for a decryption code. I can't remember setting one up on windows; the old one from my MBP which I saved in the password manager doesn't work, neither does the iCloud password nor the passcode nor the notebook password. I've also exhausted all of my standard passwords I might have typed in when prompted without thinking (as I said, I don't remember being prompted at all). Has anyone had a similar issue and might have a solution? Is there some kind of "standard" passphrase iTunes sets upon first backing up an iPhone? I'll surely find a MagSafe 1 cable somewhere so I can at least access the MBP backups but obviously I'd prefer the newer backup. Thank you!

Problem solved. When transfering my passwords to a different password manager a while ago, formatting got messed up.
