It said my activation timed out so I unplugged aand then plugged in again. Then it made me set up my iPhone. I set it up as new, now I see no place to activate my iPhone :confused:

I never had the option to activate in iTunes. I had to call AT&T to deactivate my iPhone 4 and activate the 5. It was an automated process that only took a few minutes, but never did see anything in iTunes, like I thought I did when I activated my iPhone 4 two years ago.

By "activate" do you mean connecting to your service provider? That occurs upon first turning on the iPhone & initializing the setup process, after which the iPhone instructs you to connect to iTunes and complete the setup procedure.

This is how my AT&T experiences have gone since the iPhone 3Gs.

You can call your provider to get them to turn on your service.
