Can't activate SMS Relay

I have an iPhone and an iPad both running iOS 8.1

I went to Settings -> Messsages on my phone and activated that SMS relay option and it says that I should get a code on the iPad but I don't get this code on my iPad.

Someone know why I don't get the code?

Make sure you have at least one email address set up for iMessage, not just your phone number.

I had the same problem. Log out of your apple ID on both devices and try again.

Then make sure the text message forwarding option is there in settings > messages and select the device(s) you wan't to forward SMS to.

The way it worked for me was that i activated it in iPhone settings and a notice popped up on my mac screen with a code to enter on the phone.

But it took me about 5 goes before it finally activated.... just kept failing for no apparant reason
