I bought my husband a watch yesterday. I decided today to add AppleCare. I put in the serial number and it says this devise does not qualify for AppleCare. Do I have to call them?

You should have 60 days from activation - you should see the option to add it in the apple support app but may need to call 1-800-my-apple

It's also possible there might be lag time in Apple's back end systems such that a device purchased yesterday doesn't appear as having yet been sold in the system used to check for adding AppleCare+ -- this is also quite possible if purchased from a reseller like bestbuy instead of an Apple store.

Do contact Apple to get it sorted out. You should have a full 60 days. https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT202702

There is another issue. When you call Apple, you may need to speak to the Agreement Administration department. This usually means a long hold.

My understanding is that if you do not purchase AC+ at the time you purchased the watch, your husband or Apple will need to run a watch diagnosis App. If it passes, you can then purchase AC+, assuming you are in the 60 day window.

is the watch set up and associated with an Apple ID?

It takes a long time. I did this. I bought the care like a week or two after buying the watch. I don't remember the exact amount of time but it seemed like weeks before my Apple Care showed as active status.

Again, there will be the issue of needing to run diagnostics before you can purchase AC after purchasing the watch. Apple is not going to cover a watch, that they do not know is working. When you do AC at the time of purchase, they are covering the watch from the time it is in the sealed box. If you add it after purchase, a truck could have rolled over it. They need to determine it passes diagnostics.

I returned my product red AW6 as it was faulty, and decided to mull it over for a week. Then I went and bought a stainless steel Graphite watch from the store.

About 30 hours after activation I went online and purchased AppleCare + without any diagnostics required.

I also just added my iPad Air to AppleCare today as it had 3 days left in order for me to do this, again no diagnostics required. They must just trust me.

Maybe things have changed. However, when I have added AC+ belong time of purchase, somebody has always run diagnostics. I am just alerting the OP that this might happen.

Oh absolutely, I have experienced the diagnostics in the past and I did expect it on both occasions. Strange that within a couple of days that neither device has required it now.

Because of past hassles, I now always include AC at the time of product purchase.

I always buy at time of purchase. I guess I was surprised he agreed to buy one I just didn't think. I was at an Apple store. The associate never asked.

yes that's what happened. It took weeks for me for some reason.

I also added AppleCare+ a couple of days after I got my watch. There was no diagnostics to run either. I just added online when logged into my account.
