Can't add new songs to iPhone

I cannot add "new" songs from my iTunes to my iPhone 4. I drag and drop them on the iPhone under Devices and nothing happens.

I tried adding the new music to a Playlist and then added the playlist to my iPhone. The playlist is there but those new songs are not on my iPhone. When I look at the playlist from my iPhone in iTunes, it has these songs in grey with the sync icon to the right. Screen shot below:

All songs are MP3 and nothing special about them. Anyone else have this problem or have an idea of how to fix? Thanks!!

Hmm. If all else fails call the Apple support phone number

^ yeah, they will tell me to reset the iPhone. I wanted to see if anyone else knew something before doing that.
