Hi, my friend can't get her phone number added to receive messages and facetime to her iPad. I deleted and re-added her apple ID and when I do that it just says that she can receive from her email address. On mine it says I can receive from my number and my email. I tried adding a phone number in the add email address field but it wont accept it as a valid email address. I reset all settings and still no luck. She is on Verizon, is that why it's not working? Is there another setting on the iPad where you can change whether or not it can receive messages and facetime from a phone number.

Thanks!

You need an iPhone on iOS 6. If you do, the phone # is added automatically. Oh, and your iPad needs to be on iOS 6, too.

I had the same problem, all devices are on iOS 6.

Disable iMessage in settings and restart your iPad.

Open the iMessage app and enter your Apple ID. This should force it to refresh its known list of devices and it should then show up.

Sorry for a being a noob here but what's the purpose of having your phone number on your iPad?

If anyone sends an iMessage to your phone number, it'll come up on your iPad and not just your phone. Also, you can set the caller ID to be your phone number if you don't want to give out an email address.

That's right PEOPLE WHO SENDS YOU A iMESSAGE, someone who have a ios device and signed in to icloud or else it will only come through the iphone and not the ipad, since the ipad can't receive sms but only imessages!
