Can't "Add to Bag" the Series 7 I want. Why not?

Options I selected...

I belive I have everything filled in and checked. But "Add to Bag" remains grey'd out. Why?

I saw that this morning with a couple of watch/band combinations... apparently you can't buy all watch and band combinations that you can create on the Apple Store site.

I think there are significant inventory issues and they're not sure on supply so they're not letting folks check out. Many models are already showing "30 business days" (which by my account is 6 weeks), so this is already a crazy backorder situation given they just went on sale. That's my speculation.

Maybe try changing bands and see if that helps?

I am seeing the same thing - 'delivery currently unavailable' while checking out. If the first or second batch is sold out (of this configuration), wouldn't they just push the delivery dates back and let orders go through as backordered? This is for 45mm, Graphite Stainless, GPS, Charcoal Solo Braided Loop.

If I order a watch with a band I don't want, could I later swap the band in the Apple Store for the one do want?

Many thanks for the above replies.

Historically, no. With the COVID situation, probably not.

In the past, you would have to return the band AND the watch and repurchase both... and if that combination is not available in store, you are SOL.

This is indeed due to the selected watch band. If I choose the Graphite Stainless Loop (which I already have), I am able to order. I am not in a rush, so I will just wait until the Braided Solo Loop is in stock. No point in getting a band that I already have (and never use).

Still odd that Apple isn't accepting (backordered) orders for out of stock bands.

Update: I see if I wanted a space black titanium, I *could* get the deep navy solo loop that I actually wanted more than the above band.

Looks like Apple is presenting their band inventory as an option for their high end model orderers.
Makes sense I guess. (i.e., if I were in their shoes, with constrained inventory, what would I do?)

I'm surprised inventory on bands is that constrained though. I s'pose it's the whole supply chain challenge of 2021.

This is because that band color is currently out of stock. You can check which colors are available by attempting to buy the band alone, like this:

I have watched band availability over the last several years, and certain colors go in and out of stock, sometimes for several months, especially this year. The problem is that it is difficult to predict whether a particular color will go from "unavailable" to "in stock" or to "sold out." Especially for the colors which were released some time ago, like this one was. Don't hold your breath waiting for an older color to be in stock again.

Sometimes it is possible to buy a certain band color with a watch, but the band alone is temporarily unavailable.

I've been really pleased with the launch so far. Given the chip and supply constraints and backlogs, I think it's awesome that Apple delivered some product availability as planned and has delivery estimates for many products. The Watch, I would think, is a challenging product due to all the permutations and combinations of possibilities -- a hard logistics / warehouse project even under ideal circumstances, let alone at this point in our lives. As I compare this to other product launches (video cards, PS5) this year, I think the Apple Watch launch has been comparatively fantastic.

I agree. Compare with the automotive industry, which is a hot mess. Some car dealers have zero new cars for sale and have resorted to selling used cars for more than the price of new. If you try and custom order a car they laugh at you. They add $10,000+ "market adjustment" on the few new cars they do sell. Cars are being delivered with non-essential parts missing. Took me 2 months to get particular replacement tires for my car instead of 2 days.

A Subaru new car lot, for example:
