I cant seem to be able to alter these two partitions JB1 and JB2. Both those partitions are under one physical drive. I want to join them back to one partitions but i cant. Could the drive be corrupted?

1. Connect the external drive
2. Open disk utility
3. IMPORTANT -- go to the view menu and choose "show ALL devices"
4. You now see the physical drive (for the external drive) on the left
5. Click on the physical drive, then click "partition".

Any better?

Ok i did what u suggested, but the partition button was not activated. I could only do an Erase of the physical drive, which joined the two partitions into one. And that one Partition could not be Partitioned, the button is still greyed out.
btw. should i select MasterBootRecord as a Sheme?

The drive should be formatted to:
Mac OS extended with journaling enabled, GUID partition format.

After selecting "show all devices", did you click the TOPMOST line that represents the physical drive?

You can't resize a partition if you click on the partition itself.
You have to select THE ENTIRE DRIVE and then try to partition or re-partition.
