Can’t Apple make Siri remote work via WiFi?

My a/v closet is too far from my TV for the Siri remote to work via Bluetooth. I currently use an older silver remote with an ir repeater, but that doesn’t give me trackpad control or Siri commands. My question is...if the iOS REMOTE app on my iPhone can control my Apple TV via WiFi, why can’t Apple include WiFi on the Siri remote?

Because of the power requirements?
Considering that

Bluetooth uses less than 3 percent of the power required by Wi-Fi for the same tasks

how much battery would it need?
