Cant assign more then 4GB to VMware !!

hey guys ,
I am not able to assign morethen 4GB to VMware, why? does it only support 4GB ?
i have 6GB in my iMAC , and i was playing with it, its not that i want to assign 4GB out of 6GB to VMware..but may be in the future if i upgrade to 12GB then i might assign 6 or 8 GB to VMware.
Just wanted to know.

I could see 6GB in my iMAC, but in VMware its only showing 4GB.

I'm running Fusion 3.x, and 8GB is the limit I see. (In fact running 3 vm's with 8gb each 24x7 normally).
