can't back out of some links??

iMac with mavericks--why can't i retreat back out of links that i forwarded into from a blog website.--i know it is something simple- damned if i can come up with it on my own.i.e. blogger news site with story links/references- i go there read the material than cannot return to the blog-i have to close out, go to history and pull up the original blog again---does any of that make any sense to anyone.?i though sure i would stumble across the remedy but so far NOT ...thank you
