I am used to manually enabling third party programs that I trust but that are not signed so that MacOS will by default not allow them to run and return the error "can’t be opened because Apple cannot check it for malicious software".

However, I would also like to avoid getting it on programs that I have written and compiled by myself. Sure, it is possible to to the System Preferences Privacy tab and do the usual thing, but when compiling and running many programs, it is not practical... Is there a better way ?

Thanks! Never got to the point where I need this, so I did not know the command indeed.

Disabling GateKeeper is one of the first things I do on a new Mac or after a software update.
I guess it's "just me", but I don't want to be bothered by it.

And doing so hasn't caused me any problems.

You should be able to open such an app without the extra step of disabling gatekeeper.
Just right-click on that app, and choose "Open" from the right-click menu.
You would only need to do that the first time you attempt to open that app.
