I have been holding down the Cmd key and clicking Finder (in the dock) the opening the Apple Symbol and re starting. The USB is then recognized. Is there a better fix?

I have also had to relaunch finder every so often in order to find both my Airport Time Capsule (and its attached usb drive) and my WD MyCloud. I feel like this existed before high sierra as well though.

It's a well known problem with Finder, I have it on 10.11 as well.
Doesn't correleate to a file's location (network, USB stick, ...), it also happens with local files.
I'm not aware of a fix other than killing Finder.

That far back? I mean, it’s more of an annoyance than anything, but still. Time to fix it.
