Hello,
Can't boot into safe mode, can't option boot to choose startup drive. Changed keyboard (both Apple) no joy. Screen stays black with no noise from hard drive. Have zapped PRAM and reset SMC, run Disk Utility, DiskWarrior etc. Can boot into recovery. Can anybody here suggest a course of action?
Thanks.

Do you have a firmware password enabled?

If you can boot to recovery you have access to a startup disk setting from the Apple menu there. What are your options there? Could it be that you've installed a GPU that doesn't have drivers in El Capitan?

I can choose my startup disk from the control panel so there's no problem there. I have a AMD FirePro D300 2 GB. Is that compatible?
