Cant boot, so cant find out FW/BB version

I have iPhone 3GS model# A1303, I still have itunes with which i used to copy my songs. It was unlocked and jailbroken, however during one cydia update i got stuck in a reboot cycle, now all i get is the apple logo nothing else. When I try to restore using iTunes, I saw Fiddler logging a request for http://appldnld.apple.com/iPhone4/041-1965.20110721.gxUB5/iPhone2,1_4.3.5_8L1_Restore.ipsw

So now can i know what is my iphone FW and BB version?

1 step at a time...

couldnt find out my fw/bb version, so i let iTunes update my phone, after the update, i found myself in de-activated state.. and after a lot of googling found out about TinyUmbrella. Downloaded TinyUmbrella v5.10.06 and it showed all the details about my phone.

Device Model : MB715LL/A - iPhone3GS
Installed Firmware : 5.0.1
Installed Baseband : 05.16.05-6.4_M3S2
Serial Number : ***

So first hurdle crossed, I know what I am dealing with. Next I need to unlock and jailbreak it to use it with my carrier.

aah 1 more thing.. I dont know which iOS i am running.. any ideas?

Thanks, but is it not possible to downgrade my firmware n baseband to a lower version, I mean I can download any .IPSW file and restore it, right? I know it will be like original phone.. but can i not apply unlock and jailbreak to it later on..

No, its nowhere near as simple as you think.
And the baseband on the 3GS can never be downgraded once upgraded.
The firmware can if you have shsh blobs saved for previous firmware but even if you do you cannot downgrade the baseband and that's what matters when it comes to unlocking.
 
You are repeating my mistake by showing my serial number - i could edit my post, but not urs. Can you please erase it.
 
Jailbreak done

okay.. as i said i am taking baby steps... i am happy to tell everyone that after reading quite a bit on the net I have successfully jailbreaked my iphone 3gs.

What all did i do

With Iphone 3GS in hand without carrier SIM

Used redsn0w_win_0.9.10b4 => Failed
Used redsn0w_win_0.9.10b5b => Success

Had also selected "Install Cydia" while jailbreaking, so now my phone boots up and shows home screen

I also used a online website to get my production week, year, etc. Got the Serial Number from TinyUmbrella, also found out that the serial number is printed on the SIM tray :)

Next steps :

1. Copy some songs.. and atleast use it as a ipod.. can I? should I launch iTunes for that?
2. Unlock phone
a) use iPad baseband? is it that risky? will i loose GPS?
Production year: 2010
Production week: 27 (July)
Production number: 6330 (within this week)
b) downgrade baseband? i dont get it why is it not possible?
c) create custom firmware
3. SHSH stuff
 
Will there be an upgrade to 3GS

I am stuck with 5.0.1 as it is not unlocked, now my only option is to upgrade to iPad baseband. Now I am thinking outloud - I wont have to install iPad baseband if a new baseband for 3GS is available, now what are the chances of that happening?

I was reading http://www.appleinsider.com/article...rmission_for_apps_to_access_address_book.html and looks like we may have a new version of iOS, so should I be hopeful and wait for some time before making my move to iPad?

What do you guys think?
 
What does that article have to do with unlocking your iphone? Nothing. :rolleyes: The latest ios makes it harder to unlock your phone, not easier.
Read the following sentence very carefully: you must use the ipad bb to unlock, because you screwed up.

The only thing I can figure is that english is a second language for the OP. Because if someone is really that dumb, maybe they shouldn't have a smart phone.

I agree that there's probably a language barrier also but he thinks that with a new baseband that apple will release he can unlock it then without using the ipad bb?
Doesnt make much sense at all but sounds like he has lots of more learning to do IMO.
