I have recently bought 2018 mac mini, which I am using with thunderbolt display 27" via thunderbolt 2 to thunderbolt 3 adapter. Today I’ve bought magic keyboard (used one) and everything works, but not brightness controls. It’s not an issue with keyboard, I have identical one at work and it happens that I brought it home with me: it doesn’t work either. Also both magic keyboards change brightness on my work macbook pro 15 2018 without any trouble.
The funny thing is that my old wireless logitech k760 keyboard works and brightness controls on it work too, so I’m puzzled.
The only way I can control brightness of my thunderbolt display is via display settings, but it’s annoying and inconvenient.
Any thoughts as to how I can make it work and what can be at play here?
UPD: the issue seems to be in display itself or the adapter: if I hook my work macbook to it and close the lid to use only display it also doesn’t let me change brightness with my magic keyboards.
UPD2: pressing ^+F1/F2 (as stated in apple troubleshooting video issues) causes brightness icon to appear, but I still can’t change anything.
UPD3: more experimenting reveals that on macbook thunderbolt display’s brightness can be changed using ^+F1/F2, so the problem as I see it is on mac mini thunderbolt is simultaneously seen as secondary and primary display (^+F1/F2 reveals brightness icon but do not allow to control it)?
UPD4: after all this I can’t change brightness in settings, I can move slider, but it doesn’t change anything
