I'm a BB person who just switched to an iPhone for work. I'm just confirming what appears to be the case based on my search of the forums -- is it correct that you can't change the new email alert sound without jailbreaking the phone?

That is pretty darn surprising, so I'm hoping I'm missing something.

Bummer, but thanks for the reply.

The problem is, the built in new email alert is not easy to hear. There's also no visual indication on the phone, unless you unlock and go to your home screen.

Too bad, because I'm going to be using this as my main remote work email device, and this will make my life harder. Of course, I'm getting a huge number of benefits over my BB in return, but it still sucks.

Yeah, it does. IMO, the iPhone was never meant to be an enterprise email device - like the BB.

just jb the phone if you are still in 4.01 or lower or wait for a jb to come out, it will give you lots of new capabilities for your phone....:D

So tell me, as I am new to "jail breaking"

1. Can you go backwards (easily to original) once this is done?
2. Do you use (recommend) Cydia to jail break an iphone 4 running 4.1 OS

I too want to change the New Mail Alert as it's just not loud enough.

Thanks.
