I have had my mac book 4 months, and it fell from my couch and cracked the case around charging port, computer works fine, just doesn't charge. Apple store says I need new logic board, how could such a short fall result in such a costly fix, couldn't it be the DC input board ? Help, can't see spending 800 dollars.

Your lucky your hard drive didn't die. Never drop a computer with a spinning hard drive. =P
The power supply is built on the motherboard, but the MagSafe is a separate part. - http://www.ifixit.com/MacBook-Parts/MacBook-Unibody-Model-No-A1342-MagSafe-DC-In-Board/IF160-034
If your good at taking things apart you could use THIS guide (asuming your model is A1342) and check to see if everything is ok and/or replace the MagSafe connector,...just don't tell Apple you did it.
