Can't click on a phone number within an imessage to start a facetime anymore?

One of the things I loved about previous MacOs is that if someone texted or imessaged me a phone number, I could just click on it from my mack to start a facetime or regular call, now when I do that it wants me to add the number to my contacts. Is there a way to make it go back to the old system? I found that feature really great!
