Hey guys/gals, I can't seem to change any parts of my volume settings on my macbook. When I hit those keys the little sound level indicator pops up but then under it is this null symbol (like the no smoking sign). What can I do to fix this? If I play an audio file there's no sound, so what should I do?

Have you tried changing it from the sounds preference pane? While there, also check what the output is currently set to.

well the output is called digital out, which is the built in output, and I cant drag the output volume bar either nor can I do it for the one on the menu bar

reset pram
hold option-apple-p-r after you restart your computer and let it chime 4 times
