Can't connect Airpods to Apple TV

I have two profiles on my Apple TV; mine and my wifes.
I want to connect my wifes AirPods to her profile, but it won't show up.

She have Airpods gen 1, and the ATV is gen 3 (? – the first black one). Is there a limit?

I'm going crazy listening to her braindead TV programs when I work in the room next to her! 😝🤮
