I have a new White MacBook which I bought about a week ago, but I cannot connect to any web page that requires log in.

All other Internet stuff works fine, but I can't check online emails or facebook or anything like that, as I cant log in to them, I just get an error about not being able to connect to the server or something.

The Internet I am trying to connect to is via Ethernet at my university halls of residence, I have asked them about the problem, and they just sent me proxy settings, which appeared to be exactly the same as what I already had.

Any advice on what to do would be appreciated

Thanks

sorry I should of mentioned I was using Safari, I haven't tried any other browsers yet.

I agree with E. Start with trying another browser. If FF doesn't work either, then the problem is further down the line with a system setting.
