I am having problems connecting my macbook pro to my tv. It does not have an hdmi socket so I have an adaptor cable going into my thunderbolt socket and hdmi cable to the tv. I have the input set right but still no picture or sound. I connected my old Acer laptop which has a hdmi socket and it was fine. It looks like either the adaptor cable is no good or I need to do something on my macbook. Thanks in anticipation.

Try plugging everything in then turning on the TV, might be the computer doesn't want to detect it.

You could be having trouble with your adapter as well.
